Angel Unaware
I first saw this book in my Grandmother’s chifforobe. In case you don’t know what a chifforobe is, it is a closet-like piece of furniture, as old farmhouses did not have actual closets. One side of the chifforobe was used for hanging clothes, & one side had drawers. We have refrigerators today that hold more stuff than the old chifforobes.
My grandmother did not buy books, so a friend must have given her this. It was written & published around 1955; the story is about Dale Evans & Roy Rogers’ daughter, Robin, who was born in 1950 & passed away two years later. Robin was born with several congenital disabilities, including an enlarged heart.
The book is written as if Robin is the storyteller, recounting her short life on earth as she looks down from heaven. It is a story of faith & courage, revealing Dale & Roy’s triumph over one of life’s most challenging experiences.
I never forgot reading this book & I can still see the spot where it was stored in the chifforobe. I don’t know what happened to my Grandmother’s copy, but I had to have it when I saw this one a few years ago.
It’s a short read, only 61 pages, but a well-written, true story doesn’t need many pages to stir the emotions.
We can all relate to our own Angel Unaware.
