Boring to Bright

I like colors & paint is a great way to add color to a room.  Paint does not need to be restricted to walls.  Paint can go on just about anything.  Here are a few places that I’ve “colored” things up a bit:

Nightstand Before

Nightstand:  This was bought at a second-hand store.  It’s a very heavy wood piece & was painted gray with these lovely pewter drawer pulls.  I’ve used it for a couple of years but decided I was bored with the battleship gray color.

I used three paint colors (barn door red, marigold, & seaside green).  The paint brand name is Rethunk Junk.  These paints don’t require a primer & are easy to work with.  I wanted to add a design, so I used napkins & decoupage on the front & top to bring out the colors.  I enhanced the pulls with pewter, a paint from the same family.  I like the new look.

Nightstand After
Telephone Cubby Before

Telephone Cubby:  My house was built in 1938 & this was a built-in cubby for the telephone.  It was painted white & I never had anything to put in this area, particularly not a phone.

I used the same marigold paint, some press-on flowers & added some colorful small plates.  I like this look much better.  It is not dull anymore.

Telephone Cubby After

I’m thinking about some other projects & next time I’m at the craft store, I will pick up some different paint colors.  I want to do a few porch projects & I want to try painting fabric.  I have an ottoman that I may experiment on.  When I do, I’ll share the results.

Thank you, Sandra, and you’re an inspiration, also. Your birdhouses reflect your heart, love, and emotions, and that’s what art is all about.
