County Fair
Have you ever experienced a smell that takes you back to a time you will never forget? That happened to me on Saturday. Two of my work colleagues talked me into going to a county fair. The minute we got close to the entrance, I smelled it. No, it wasn’t cotton candy, it was the odor of a barn where farm animals are kept & I knew I was in heaven!
We spent an hour or more walking up & down the stalls admiring the cows, pigs, & goats. There was one sheep agreeable for petting & 2 alpacas named Bob & Gary. We came upon an enclosure of piglets. Their gate was not shut well & they were rooting their way to freedom. We tried to get someone’s attention, but one did manage to escape. He got caught by one of the helpers & squealed like crazy when he was being taken back to the pen :-).
There was a variety of geese, chickens, roosters, & rabbits. Some chickens were “layers,” & you could purchase fresh eggs on the spot.
From there, we toured the exhibition hall & exhibits. There were all kinds of plants, textiles, & art on display. This skirt was a ribbon winner. I was fascinated with the fabric
This was only one of the many beautiful orchids that were on display.
Before leaving, we had to have some “fair” food. Mine consisted of French fries smothered in cheese, bacon bits, & jalapeños. Yum, yum!
It was a great day!
