Fried Green Tomatoes
My little plant grew up to be a big tomato vine. I had lots of blooms, but the tomatoes took a long time to come. And then, finally, I saw the beginnings of tiny tomatoes.
I was excited to see the many blooms & envision all the future tomatoes I could harvest.
The process was taking longer than it should have. This spot got plenty of sun & seemed as though we had plenty of rainfall.
It’s almost December, and my tomatoes are pretty large, but I don’t think I’ll have any vine-ripened red tomatoes.
So when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, or in this case, you make fried green tomatoes.
And they were delicious! The green tomatoes were perfectly firm & fried up beautifully.
An all-time favorite movie is “Fried Green Tomatoes”. It was filmed in Juliette, GA & if you go there, you can still order fried green tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe.
We stopped there once & tried their tomatoes. I couldn’t compete with the professionals, but my recipe wasn’t that bad. Try tomatoes covered with some flour, a little cornmeal, salt/pepper, & then fried in bacon grease. Yum yum!
