July 2023 Week in Review

I’m back in FL, but this was a great week of celebration for birthdays, including our Nation’s birth.  It was also hot in Northeast Georgia, so the 4th of July was celebrated with an “indoor picnic.”

Dahlonega had various events over the past week, but my favorite has always been their honoring of our veterans.  These crosses get put up before Memorial Day along the highways leading into town and stay up thru the 4th of July.  They are a grim reminder of why the rest of us can have this and every day as one of freedom.

I made a new cake recipe.  It was given to me by a sweet lady at the office.  It’s called “Dreamsicle Cake.”   It’s a nice change of pace from traditional cakes/frosting and refreshing for this time of year.

Dreamsicle Cake

If you’d like to try it, here is the recipe:

Cake:

1 Box Orange Supreme cake mix

2 Eggs

1 ½ Cups Water

1 Small Box of Orange Jello

½ Cup Cooking Oil

Mix and bake at 350 degrees until the cake is done.  Let cool.

Frosting:

8 Ounces Cool Whip

½ Cup Sugar

½ Cup Orange Juice

20 Ounce Can of Crushed Pineapple (drained well)

8 Ounces Cream Cheese (room temperature)

Mix and “frost.”

You could substitute a strawberry cake mix & strawberry Jello, & make another colorful version of this recipe.

I watched 12 episodes of Outlander.  Now I’m caught up to date on the adventures of the Frasers.  The Revolutionary War is beginning & we all know how that will end.

I tried a new restaurant on the square & had some time for “junking.”  Found a book in a series I’ve been reading & lucked upon a Christmas in July sale.  You could fill up a tub with all the Christmas items you could stuff into it for $10.00 & the tub was thrown in as well.  What a deal!

I always like to leave a little something behind, which reminds me of my being here.  This time it’s a lantana plant in this beautiful royal blue pot.

My next visit will be at the end of August.  But for now, I’m back in JAX, weathering the heat & back to working in the office.

Keep cool!
