Peace on Earth
As I close out one year, I like to look back and think about whether I made a difference for anyone. Then, I think about what my plan will be for moving forward into the new year. I do make resolutions, usually the same ones every year, but it’s a way to keep what is important to me at the forefront of my thoughts and actions.
I had the opportunity to do some reflecting in early October when I was asked to make table decorations for a Christmas luncheon. I work best when I have a theme because I can concentrate my efforts on the style and type of supplies I need. I tossed around several ideas (i.e., the traditional Christmas colors of green/red, Christmas around the world, or even Christmas at the beach since I am in Florida), but I asked myself what message I really want my table decorations to make.
2024 has been a tumultuous year for all people across the globe. The weather in the US has been very erratic; there are people in other countries living under the threat of war, more school shootings, and the political situation, which created a divide among everyone. My thought was, wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing to have everyone all over the world experience “Peace on Earth” because peace embodies the harmonious coexistence of everyone, it transcends borders, cultures, and beliefs. It is a vision where compassion and understanding replace conflict and division, fostering an environment where individuals can thrive. So, my theme for the table decorations was “Peace on Earth.”
I made a total of five and gave names to each one. I also made a summary card of the meaning and placed it on the table.
The “Tree of Doves” is symbolic of peace. The dove’s gentle nature and graceful flight evoke a sense of calm and harmony. In many cultures and religions, doves are seen as messengers of goodwill, embodying the aspiration for a peaceful coexistence. This symbolism inspires effort toward conflict resolution and the collective pursuit of a more peaceful world.
“Let Your Light Shine” is a phrase that encourages individuals to express their true selves and share their unique gifts with the world. It signifies embracing one’s inner qualities of kindness, creativity, and authenticity and allows you to illuminate the lives of others. Your flame does not burn out if you use it to light someone else’s candle.
“Silver Bells” evokes feelings of joy, nostalgia, and celebration. The bells embody the spirit of giving and togetherness and symbolize hope and renewal, reminding us of the magic of Christmas and the joy of shared traditions with loved ones.
“Peace in the Valley” signifies tranquility, hope, and the promise of solace amidst life’s challenges. It evokes imagery of serene landscapes where individuals find refuge from turmoil and conflict. It also symbolizes the longing for inner peace and harmony in one’s life.
The “White Poinsettia” is a symbol of purity, innocence, peace, good cheer, and success, and brings wishes of happiness and celebrations. The white petals evoke feelings of peace and serenity during this special time of year.
I hope that 2025 is a year that brings peace into your heart and that your theme is one of kindness and caring to all people around the world.
Blessings to all of you.
