Post-Holiday Inventory
The new year gives me an incentive to take inventory of “stuff” & make the decision to eliminate things I’m not using. I know that taking care of the physical stuff also frees up my mental clutter.
I’m not a hoarder but a keeper of things. I have a very hard time getting rid of anything that still has a useful purpose even if that purpose may not be for me. I have examined myself over the years & have concluded that this stems from my growing up years where we did not have the money to buy new things. Torn clothes were mended, ruffles sewn around the hems of dresses to add length when you grew, or when so worn out you could no longer mend, they were made into rags for cleaning.
An example is I’ve been keeping a king size comforter that I no longer used & my intent was to cut it down into smaller manageable pieces & create sleeping pads for dogs at the animal shelter. I liked this idea & was very excited at the time to contribute to the comfort of animals needing a home. Well, after a year of moving it to different places in the house, that has not happened. It’s time to let go of that dream & donate the item for someone else’s creativity.
So today, I have moved one step closer & filled up my trunk. Once everything is in the car, I have committed & I’m another step closer to the donation box. The next step is taking it from the car & dropping it off at the donation center. But…I feel better already. Now, I must figure out how to exercise discipline & not fill up the space I have created. 🤔
