Thanksgiving 2022
The holidays are about family; even if your family cannot be with you, you can incorporate something about them into your celebration. Reaching out via telephone is one way to bridge the geographic gap and close each call with an “I Love You.” Another way I have my loved ones at my table is to make a recipe they gave me.
My Mom and Sister have been passed for many years, but I have a collection of their hand-written recipes, so I select one and include it on my menu. This year, I’m making Mom’s Apple Crumb Pie and my Sister’s Watergate Salad. Over the years, we have moved several times, but my recipe drawer is always guarded to ensure it doesn’t get lost in packing.
I also use dishes that I have saved; this pictured bowl was my Grandmother’s. It was always on the table at each meal. It held gravy at breakfast and beans or potatoes at lunch or dinner. This year I will use it for my cranberry sauce.
I love a tablescape and making the mealtime special. It doesn’t take a lot to set an impressive table. Whatever your traditions, make them the very best and, most of all, memorable. Happy Thanksgiving!
