The Power of Thoughts
In 1952 Dr. Norman Vincent Peale published The Power of Positive Thinking: A Practical Guide to Mastering the Problems of Everyday Living. Dr. Peale stated that positive thoughts could change one’s outlook & create a peaceful mind to live a more fulfilled life.
In 2006, Rhonda Byrne published The Secret, based on the law of attraction, claiming that thoughts can change a person’s life.
I had the opportunity to spend some time over the holidays with someone who shared her version of positivity which she has titled “word mastery.” From personal experience, she realized the power that words have & the contribution they make to your emotional well-being. She says that how we make a statement creates a force that will determine the outcome.
When we verbalize, we should use words of empowerment: I am; I will; I choose; I can. Phrases such as I want; I need; I have to; I should; & I can’t take the empowerment away from us.
Using an “I” and a negative statement qualifies you as something less than who you are. Our word patterns describe our thoughts & mastering words is the first step towards mastery of yourself. A negative statement, made with feeling, will stay with you if not recognized & changed. We refer to this as harboring a grudge that is detrimental to your health & well-being.
Eleanor Roosevelt said, “You can often change your circumstances by changing your attitude,” so in this new year, surround yourself with positive people who bring positive energy into your soul. Be aware of your thoughts & words. Use the empowering statements as they will determine your happiness, joy, peace, & your quality of life. And…might change your circumstances!
