White Shoulders Perfume

White Shoulders Perfume

I’ve mentioned previously in my posts how I came to know about White Shoulders perfume & yesterday, I found a bottle of this luscious stuff at a resale store & just had to buy it.

This perfume takes me back to the late ’60s & my first after-graduation job at Jackson County Bank in Gainesboro, TN.  One of my duties was bookkeeping which consisted of posting the daily check withdrawal & deposits.  This was before automation & computers.

The bookkeeping machines were located behind the teller windows at the rear of the bank.  Bookkeeping duties occurred during business hours while other bank customers were conducting business at the teller windows.

Minnie Stafford

A daily customer was Ms. Minnie Stafford.  She worked for City Cafe & came in to make business deposits for the restaurant. I thought Ms. Minnie was beautiful.  She was a red-headed version of Dolly Parton.

She was a waitress but was always immaculately dressed, with makeup on, with this gorgeous bouffant hairdo.   What stood out about Ms. Minnie was her fragrance.  She always wore White Shoulders perfume.  I knew when she was in the bank because the fragrance would waft to the bookkeeping area.

I’d stop what I was doing momentarily, sniff the air, & silently say to myself, “Ms. Minnie is at the teller window.”  No other fragrance has captivated me & stayed in my memory like White Shoulders.

White Shoulders is surpassing its 78th year & like Ms. Minnie, is an unforgettable fragrance.  Not everyone embraces the smell of gardenias, but for me, it is timeless.  It’s like the evening odors of a flower garden when the air is still & heavy, the flowers are at their peak, & you can breathe in all the different fragrances.

Thank you, Ms. Minnie.  I will wear my perfume & think of you, such a wonderful lady whose memory I never forgot.  I can’t duplicate the hairdo, but I can wear the perfume with the same elegance & style as you did.  Maybe I will leave a sweet memory for someone like you did.
