Whose Your Heroine
In my life, I’ve accumulated many heroines. They have been women whom I’ve admired & loved for their unique qualities & talents.
The women I admire the most are the ones who aren’t afraid to be themselves. If there’s no path, they walk it enough to wear it down & make one; if there’s no seat at the table, they pull up a chair; my heroines are not victims; they use their talent & energy to get stuff done; & they don’t give up; & most definitely don’t quit.
You may not know Iris Apfel. If you’ve seen pictures of her, you will recognize her by the large round black glasses that she is noted for.
She never fears being bold & has ignored age as a reason to stop doing what she loves. Iris had a fashion show at age 85, and at the age of 97, she signed a modeling contract; she’s now 101. Her motto is “More is more, less is a bore.”
Iris is my heroine. If there were an Iris Apfel fan club, I would join. I want to be like her – bold, fearless & forging ahead – not following the masses but following my own style & heart. I want to be more because less is a bore.
You go, Iris!
