Working From Home

Working from home post header

I’m not a habitual teleworker.  I enjoy going to the office every day and only stay home if there’s inclement weather like we’ve had for the past several days.  It’s a struggle for me because I continue to get dressed as if I’m going to work. After all, if I don’t it puts me in an entirely different mood.  If I stay in pajamas, I want to nap and snuggle on the couch all day and if I put on jeans or comfortable clothes, I want to clean the house.  So, I dress each morning as if I’m going to the office.

But aside from the getting dressed part, telework also comes with a different set of problems.  Teleworking with a pet in the house is like having a toddler.  They crave your time and attention and want to be in the middle of whatever you’re doing.

Waffle is no exception.  I pop away for a quick second and come back to this.  I only hope he didn’t step on keys and send a negative message to someone!

When I get him off the computer, he wants to snuggle and that brings on a different challenge.  It ties up one arm so I can only type with one hand which slows down my productivity.  But he’s so warm and cuddly and in my old 86-year-old drafty house, his body heat feels real good.

My Grandmother had a saying which was “Make hay while the sun shines” so when he goes down for his nap is when I can get a lot done.  I only have to worry about rattling food packages too loudly because he’ll wake up and think it’s treat time.

But Waffle is not my only disadvantage for working at home.  My set-up faces this way and I’m constantly wondering what’s in the refrigerator or in the cupboards that I can cook.  It’s like being captive on a cruise ship when all you think about are the meals and in-between snacks.

This is why remote work is not for me.  Thankfully, I’ll be back in the office tomorrow!
