My Georga Mountain Yard

Lily

The plants that survive in northeast Georgia will not survive in the hot Florida temperatures.  I’ve tried bulbs before, but the ground stays too warm for them to have a nice winter nap and be ready for spring.  But, in the mountains of NE Georgia, the bulbs return and grace me with their beautiful blooms.

This year, I got several varieties of lilies for my birthday.  They are already being “show-offs” and extending their color for me to admire.

We also wanted some more color and added some begonias around this potted shrub.

This coleus is very colorful, and although it’s an annual, I’m going to try rooting some of it and see if I can save it over the winter. I liked how the leaves gave the appearance of embroidery around the edges.

I do like plants that come back like these grasses:

And we have hostas, but we’ve discovered that the deer enjoy them and munch on them until the hostas are just little stems sticking out of the dirt.  They quietly come into the yard when it’s dark and snack away.  Sort of like sneaking into the refrigerator late at night.

The hydrangea bush is also colorful and always makes me joyful.  I’ve made several bouquets this past week.

I  get to enjoy a different yard look when I’m here, and it’s always a treat to see the difference between my two yards!

Thank you Sadie. I’d like to be there more to enjoy it but one day I will. I’m trying to incorporate plants that return every year. Bulbs are great because of the colder winter climate but I have to time my trips up there just right to catch them blooming. Miss you sweet friend.
